Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 opened today, connecting Broadbeach through to Burleigh Heads. I led community engagement on the detailed business case back in 2018, so it was surreal to be standing on a platform this morning waiting for a tram I'd spent so long seeing on general arrangement drawings. I rode it to Burleigh and was heartened to see it packed the whole way. They said Gold Coasters wouldn't use public transport. We always said tram travel was different. Congratulations to everyone involved, from the business case to the first day of operations. A very good first day for the southern Gold Coast. And yes, the mock-up we did for the fly-through back on the day really does match the reality!
